((I assume that this the the correct thing to do...?))
A young man - perhaps fourteen years old, well-built but not particularly well-cared-for - trudged up to the lab, occasionally stumbling over the various small obstacles littering the path; his lack of sight in his bandage-covered right eye had its consequences on his coordination. Cursing under his breath at each stumble, he continued his trek to the building.
Truth be told, Akui hadn't really thought about what he was going to do once he got his Pokemon, whatever unlucky creature it happened to be. The thought foremost in his mind was to track down a certain fellow Pokemorph, but that could prove to be more difficult than he had planned, especially as he had more than one region to search. As he walked, he silently reordered his list of priorities - get Pokemon, train Pokemon, hunt Urami with Pokemon. Foolproof.
When he reached his destination, he automatically went to walk into the apparently open doorway; when his fingers touched cool glass, he thought better of it. Absentmindedly running one hand through tangled silver-grey hair, he rapped on the door with the other, automatically taking a small step back.

The door automatically slid open. Standing in front of a desk was a woman. She was tall, wearing a white lab coat that went down to just above her ankles. Her hair was short, green. "Hello there," she said cooly. "You must be Akui, correct? Yes, I knew you were coming." The woman patted the head of a Kirlia beside her and smiled. "I'm Proffessor Willow. I hear you're looking for a pokemon companion? Well come in, come in.." She rested her hand on the desk behind her, which was littered with Pokeballs. One of them held the boy's new partner, but which?

Akui's one good eye quickly appraised the interior of the lab, and its two current inhabitants, as he stepped through the doorway into the lab; his gaze lingered momentarily on the woman's green hair - odd as it was, he supposed he was not really one to make any judgements on appearance.
"A pleasure to meet you, Professor," he said quietly, his voice almost monotone, keeping that crimson gaze of his on the woman as he spoke. "You are correct; I come in search of a Pokemon to accompany me on my journeys. What do you have on offer?"
Like his plans for the future, Akui had also not put much thought into what Pokemon he would actually get as his partner. His information on traditional starting Pokemon was somewhat limited, but with any luck there would be one that appealed to him amongst the ones kept in stock by the lab.

The tall woman smiled as she nodded. "Right," she said, running a hand through her hair, "Let's see what I have for you." She reached behind her, filling her arms up with Pokeballs. She through them all in the air yelling, "Go! Pokemon!" A beam of red light came out from each, materializing into a Pokemon.
She pointed to and named the Pokemon in order. The orange lizard was Charmander, the blue turtle Squirtle, and the green creature with the bulb on its back, Bulbasaur. Those were the Kanto starters. The next three were the Johto starters. The small Pokemon with fire shooting from it's back was Cyndaquil, the blue crocodile Totodile, the creature with the big leaf on its head, Chikorita. The Hoenn starters were Torchic the fire chicken, Mudkip the finned Pokemon, and Treeko the green lizard. The fire monkey was Chimchar, the blue penguin was Piplup, and the green turle, Turtwig. Those were the Sinnoh starters. Finally were three Pokemon that the lab was offering for a limited time; the skull dog was Houndour, the blue creature with the swirley stomach was Poliwag, and the small weed was Oddish.
"Make your pick."

Once each of the Pokemon had been introduced, Akui folded his arms, tilting his head to one side as he studied the assembled creatures. He thought back to the person he was pursuing - none of the Pokemon, aside from the Houndour, looked like they'd be much good at fighting Ghosts, but that wasn't his only criteria. He automatically crossed off the two Pokemon that evolved into Ground-types, as Urami had a nasty habit of levitating, the two eventual Fighting-types, and for good measure ruled out the remaining Water-types. After a complicated, not entirely logical thought process, he was left with Houndour, Charmander and Treecko.
"I'll take the Charmander," he said finally, with a slight nod of his head. One more step towards his ultimate goal. A Flying-type would certainly be useful when travelling, and the variety of moves that the Charmander line learnt made them powerful Pokemon, too. "Is there anything else, before I leave for the next town?"

Professor Willow nodded, zapping the rest of the Pokemon into their Pokeballs. "You need to pick your Pokedex, device, and name your Charmander if you'd like." She pulled two cardboard boxes from below the desk. The first was filled with Pokedexes of all colors, the next of random devices in different colors. "There are three devices to choose from, each with the same functions." She laid out a watch/cell phone-like device, a flip phone-like device, and a watch-like device. "The Pokegear from Johto, the Pokenav from Hoenn, and the Poketch from Sinnoh," she explained in order. "There are a variety of different applications that you can load on them, and they start with a few. The map, the calculator, and the phone." She then stepped back to let him choose.

"I see." Unlike the Pokemon, Akui's choice in Pokedex and device did not require much thought - he quickly retrieved a matt-black Poketch and a burgundy Pokedex from the boxes. The former he strapped to his left wrist, prodding the touchscreen and watching as it lit up with a map of Sinnoh; the latter he slid into his pocket. That done, he turned to his new partner.
"Nickname, huh?" he mused, looking at the reptilian Fire-type. Trying to think of a nickname that wasn't 'Blaze' or 'Ember', he came up short. "Well. I'll just call you Charmander. It's easier. Is that all?"

Professor Willow nodded slightly. "Right then." She reached to her left, grabbing six red and white capsules from a shelf. "These are Pokeballs to catch Pokemon. I'll give you six to get started. Also," she said, groping for another capsule on the desk behind her, "here is Charmander's Pokeball."

"Pokeballs, check," he replied, taking the spheres from the woman. Making sure they were all minimised, he slid the six empty ones into his pocket as well, keeping the one that would house his Charmander in his hand. More than ready to get started, he faced the professor. "Very well then. Thank you, Professor Willow."
Akui then turned to address his new Pokemon. "I'll warn you now. This is not going to be easy." Back to Professor Willow, with a gleam in his left eye. "Professor, may we leave?"

"Yes you may," the tall woman nodded. "Oh, and if you ever have any questions or want to tell me how your Pokedex is coming along, I am registered on your device. The next town is Velia City, to the north. Very well then, goodbye."

((So, I control the Pokemon now, yes? It's been a while since I've done this.))
"I'll keep that in mind. Goodbye." Tilting his head to indicate that Charmander follow him, Akui turned around, stepping outside. The orange reptile followed warily, keeping a short distance behind his new trainer, the young man's warning - 'I'll warn you now. This isn't going to be easy.' - fresh in his mind.
"By the way, I'm a Pokemorph," Akui added as an afterthought, not stopping to look at the Pokemon. "So I can understand every word you say. If you have any questions..."
{What kind of Pokemorph are you? What's with the bandage? What did you mean by 'this isn't going to be easy?'} Charmander asked instantly, scrambling forward on stubby legs to keep up with Akui's confident stride. The Dusclops slowed down a little, putting thought into his answer - he didn't want to give too much away, not yet.
"I'm a Dusclops," he began. "As for the bandage, I'm blind in that eye, so I cover it. The bandage itself is because I don't want to look like a pirate. And as for the warning...Well, aside from the whole 'Pokemon master' scene, I'm looking for someone, and we'll be doing a lot of travelling. Plus, as you might have guessed from my appearance, I'm not exactly wealthy. We'll be going hungry a lot - get used to it."
{...Oh.} Charmander didn't seem to thrilled at the prospect of going hungry at all, and he got the feeling this strange human wasn't telling him everything. He sighed, eyes fixed on the ground, as the pair walked off in the direction of Route One.
