A pair of companions walked in silence along the first route of the Konari region, human and Pokemon, heading towards Velia City to the north. The human - if he could be called that - seemed content with the lack of conversation, though the same could not be said for his extremely nervous-looking Charmander, who tailed his trainer, not daring to get too close.
{Um,} the Fire-type started hesitantly, watching for a reaction from Akui - when he didn't get one, he assumed it safe to continue. {I was just wondering, what are we going to do if we don't reach the next town by nightfall...?}
"We keep walking," was the disinterested reply. With a faint sigh, Charmander decided against asking further. Akui had said he was a Dusclops Pokemorph - he probably wouldn't need to sleep. The reptile, on the other hand, was drowsy just thinking of staying up all night. At least we're on the first route...maybe if he catches another Pokemon, he'll let me rest in my Pokeball for a while?

All seemed peaceful. Pidgeys and Starlies made music as they fluttered through the afternoon air. So serene...
Suddenly, bushes on the side of the road started to rustle. Out came two Pokemon, a Rattata and a Budew. The Rattata was chasing after the Budew, attacking it.
"You'll never survive you mischievous Budew! How dare you enter my den!" The purple Pokemon hissed, lashing out with claws as he ran after the green one.
"I didn't know it was yours!" the Budew said innocently.
"You'll never get away!"

Akui stopped in his tracks as he heard the bushes rustle; moments later, as the two Pokemon dashed out of the foliage, he took a step back. Charmander instantly sprang forward, his claws outstretched and ready to take on the purple rodent. When he realised that his trainer didn't seem to be paying any mind to the battle, he turned, a questioning look in his eyes.
{Uh...aren't you gonna order me to attack?} he asked the young man, frowning slightly. Akui merely shrugged in response, stating, "Why should I? It's none of our business." Slightly put out, Charmander took matters into his own paws, dashing towards the two Pokemon.
{Hey! There's no need to be violent! Let's just talk this over...!} he called out, waving at them; a pebble in his way caused him to trip, and with a soft grunt he fell over. Akui chuckled lightly at this, though the sound seemed hollow.
"If you can't be persuaded otherwise, I suppose I shall have to do battle," he said dryly. "Budew, you had better appreciate this; I don't like wasting time on such trivial matters. Get up, Charmander, and use Scratch on that Rattata." Another grunt, and Charmander got to his feet, lunging in the direction of the Rattata with his claws glinting in the sunlight.

The Rattata was obviously not very strong; at least compared to the Charmander. As soon as he saw the claws they raked his side, causing him to squeak in pain. He attempted to hit the orange lizard in the face with his tail before turning and fleeing.
The budew stopped, looking around. She saw the Charmander, and its was startstruck. "You, you saved me! Thank you!" It hobbled up to Akui happily. "And you too, mister! Thank you so much! I didn't mean to barge in on that Rattata's den. He's a coward anyway. I wish I was as strong as you two are!!"

Charmander celebrated a moment of victory in making contact with the purple rodent, before its curled tail struck him in the face. Wincing, he rubbed at the faint red mark left on his scales as he watched the Ratatta flee, then turned to the starstruck Budew.
{Uh...th-thanks,} he stuttered, looking at the ground. He wasn't entirely sure what had come over him, to go against his trainer and leap into battle; it certainly wasn't like him to take a risk like that. As the Budew hobbled over to his completely uninterested trainer, he looked up at the human, wondering what he would do.
Akui, meanwhile, seemed to be pondering something as the Budew spoke to him. After a few moment's careful thought, he spoke. "It was Charmander who protected you, not me, so it is he to whom you should direct your praise. But as for the strength...? I believe that might be something I could help you with." Akui knew he had to word this carefully; even with his limited knowledge of wild Pokemon, he knew it probably wasn't wise to scare it. "They say trained Pokemon grow stronger than wild ones, after all."
{I think he means, do you want to come with us?} Charmander added helpfully, hoping this would be the case. Although, he didn't qutie fancy the idea of battling the Budew; he had just saved it, after all.

The Budew's eyes started shining ever so brightly when they asked. "Yesyesyes!!" it squealed, jumping up and down. It suddenly fell on it's face, losing it's footing. It wiggled back up to its feet before smiling up at the pokemorph. ((Now just use a Pokeball on it!))

((Okay~! n.n))
Charmander smiled joyfully at the Budew as it agreed, then turned expectantly to Akui, who looked vaguely amused by the whole situation. A hollow chuckle, and he retrieved a small Pokeball from his pocket, pressing the button once to cause the sphere to grow in size. Once it had swelled to the size of his palm, the Pokemorph clicked the button again, before tossing it gently in the direction of the small Grass-type. He certainly hadn't expected to catch a Pokemon this early, but the quicker he got a strong team, the better.

Click.
The Pokeball stopped wobbling from side to side as the button in its centre flashed red. Stepping forward to retrieve it, Akui watched with a hint of amusement in his eyes as Charmander performed a shrot victory dance, before leaping into the air.
{We caught...BUDEW!} the reptilian Pokemon cheered, a massive grin on his face. He turned to the grey-haired Pokemorph and watched expectantly for him to let the newly-captured Budew out of its Pokeball. Rolling his eyes, Akui complied, tossing the sphere a short distance into the air, where it split in half, allowing the Budew to leave its constraints.
((Do I control it from here on?))

((Yes.))
Budew knows the move(s): Absorb. Ability: Natural Cure. (The Pokémon’s status (BURN, PARALYZE, SLEEP, POISON, FREEZE) is healed when withdrawn from battle.) You pick gender.

"Okay, kid, there's something you should know," Akui said, crouching down to look the newly-captured Budew in the eye. "I am a Pokemorph. A Dusclops, to be precise. So if I disappear, replaced by a one-eyed ghost, try not to be too alarmed. Also, I understand the Pokemon language, though I don't tend to speak it in this form. Any questions?"
{Not really. Except...where are we going?}, she asked, looking slightly confused. Akui simply pointed in the direction the path led in, stood up, dusted himself off and started walking. Charmander fell into step with the equally-short-legged Budew, and tried to start a conversation.
{So...uh...what to you think of Akui?}, he asked, rubbing the back of his head with his paw.
{So, he's named Akui?} Budew asked softly, looking straight ahead. {He seems okay. Kinda weird, though.} Charmander nodded vigorously in agreement, watching as the ill-cared-for youth meandered towards the next town, apparently having forgotten the two Pokemon entirely.
